SCIENCE

At P.S. 343, science is more than a subject. It is a way of thinking, investigating, and connecting with the world. Our students actively engage in the Science and Engineering Practices by asking questions, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing data, and designing solutions to real-world problems. Whether observing changes in a school garden, modeling weather patterns, or testing the strength of student-designed bridges, children learn to think like scientists and engineers.

We believe in place-based education, using our Sunnyside community and the wider city as a living laboratory. This year we are excited to expand our Urban Advantage program, which allows families to visit New York City’s top science institutions such as museums, zoos, aquariums, and botanical gardens for free. These opportunities connect classroom learning to authentic experiences and encourage children to see themselves as part of the scientific community.

Science at the Children’s Lab School emphasizes curiosity, creativity, and collaboration. By integrating literacy, math, and the arts with hands-on investigations, students not only master content but also build the confidence to share their discoveries through projects, performances, and presentations. Families are invited to contact Ms. Salchli for more information about Urban Advantage and to join us in creating a year of exploration, discovery, and wonder during the 2025–2026 school year.
